Sweating is the body’s natural way of regulating its temperature, usually in times of warmer weather, during physical activity, or when experiencing stress, fear or anger. In some cases however, the body may sweat excessively for no apparent reason – this is Hyperhidrosis.
It’s estimated that hundreds of thousands of people in the UK are likely to be living with Hyperhidrosis, possibly as much as 3% of the population.
While there is usually no major health risk*, excessive sweating can make skin infection more likely, and can often be a cause of social embarrassment leading to reduced quality of life. This embarrassment can also sometime lead people with the condition to avoid seeking medical advice or care, but Hyperhidrosis can be treated effectively.
At Hale Health, we use anti-wrinkle injectables to treat Hyperhidrosis – treatment is administered to the armpit to block the actions of the nerves responsible for the excessive sweating. The result is an almost instant reduction in sweating.
* Please note that excess sweating can sometimes indicate a more serious underlying health issue, including conditions such as Infections, Thyroid issues, Diabetes, Menopause, some forms of cancer and issues with the nervous system. Consult a GP if you are concerned about any of these potential issues.

Frequently Asked Questions
Hyperhidrosis is a long-term condition that can occur for no obvious reason, and can be caused by another condition that you are suffering from or as a side effect of medication you’re taking. It is a common condition that can affect the whole body, especially areas such as your armpits, hands, feet, face, chest and groin. Although it is normal to sweat if you do exercise or get hot, excessive sweating (hyperhidrosis) occurs when the body doesn’t need to cool down.
There is no cure for Hyperhidrosis, but it is possible to manage the symptoms of the condition. In certain people, avoiding drinking alcohol or eating spicy food can help to minimise your symptoms. Being mindful of clothing and footwear can assist for example wearing loose-fitting white or black coloured clothes can assist in minimising signs of sweating alongside choosing socks to help absorb moisture and wearing leather shoes rather than boots or sports shoes can help too.
If your Hyperhidrosis is affecting your confidence, it is possible for it to be treated at our specialist Hale Health Clinic, where our specialist Doctor will discuss your options with you.
Your Hyperhidrosis consultation will be with our specialist Doctor who will assess your condition and determine the most appropriate form of treatment. During your consultation they will be able to answer any questions you may have about your Hyperhidrosis and give you personalised advice. If they decide your condition can be treated, they will be able to carry out the procedure in-clinic.
Treatment involves injecting small doses of anti-wrinkle neurotoxin in the affected area. The injections work by blocking the action of nerves that supply the eccrine (sweat) glands. This stops the glands from producing sweat. Treatment totally blocks the nerve ending for about 6-12 weeks, but then new nerve endings start to form. This means the effects of the treatment of hyperhidrosis lasts for several months but will eventually wear off. Treatment is prescribed by our specialist doctor at the point of consultation. Neurotoxin injections are proven to effectively help manage excessive sweating conditions and are approved by NICE for use in the NHS, however few NHS authorities provide the service.
Pain and recovery time from this procedure is minimal. Side effects may occasionally include redness and bruising. You will need several small injections with a fine needle into the affected areas, such as the armpits. The injections may cause some discomfort and your skin may be slightly red and inflamed immediately after treatment. This normally resolves within a few hours.
Results from this treatment can take up to a few weeks to finalise, with the duration of results varying from person to person. The effects of your treatment should last in the range of 4-12 months and possibly longer.
